Artist Chandrashekhar Joshi

Welcome to the official website of acclaimed artist, Illustrator Chandrashekhar Joshi.

Chandrashekhar Joshi was born in Pune, India in 1951. At the tender age of 3 he started to draw on floors using chalks and geru. His mother supported him a lot through in his journey. She used to allow him to draw on floor and would not wipe the floor because he used to get angry. He studied at the N.M.V. Boys High school, Pune. He received a Diploma in Commercial Arts 1973. He lives and works in Pune.

During the academic years in N.M.V. Boys High school he was awarded lots of prizes in drawing competitions. He won Two years scholarship from BrihanMaharashtra Bhavan Delhi in 1966.He has done more than 2000 book covers till date.His one of the painting on Chanakya which is 12 feet by 6 feet is in National Defence Acadamy, Pune.

Chandrashekhar Joshi’s artistic journey is enriched by a solid educational foundation. He completed his schooling at N.M.V. Highschool, Pune, India, where his artistic talents began to emerge. Recognizing his potential, he furthered his education by enrolling at Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalay, Pune. This esteemed institution helped him refine his skills and develop a deeper understanding of various art forms.

Chandrashekhar’s dedication and talent soon gained recognition, and at the school level, he held solo exhibitions that were graced by esteemed personalities like Chief Guest Ranjit Desai and Babasaheb Purandare. These early exhibitions allowed him to showcase his art and receive invaluable feedback and encouragement.

As he progressed in his artistic journey, Chandrashekhar’s talents transcended boundaries. In the year 2000, he presented his remarkable painting titled ‘Chanakya’ (12″ * 10″) at the National Defence Academy, Pune, leaving a lasting impression on the audience. His artwork also found a place in prestigious institutions like the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun and Council Hall in Pune, gaining admiration from visitors and connoisseurs of art.

Chandrashekhar’s artistic prowess extended beyond canvas as he contributed his sketches to Ramanand Sagar’s popular serials, ‘Vikram Vetal’ and ‘Saibaba’ in 2006. His talent to capture expressions and emotions through sketches added depth and life to the characters.

In 2010, Chandrashekhar’s art took a significant turn when he organized a lifetime exhibition of his paintings dedicated to Swami Vivekananda at Ramkrishna Math, Pune. This exhibition was a celebration of Swami Vivekananda’s teachings and philosophy, and it further solidified Chandrashekhar’s place as a prominent artist.

The year 2015 witnessed the establishment of a ‘Lifetime Art Gallery’ featuring his paintings on the life of ‘Shri Samarth Ramdas Swami’ at Sajjangad, Satara. This gallery stands as a tribute to the saint’s life and contributions.

Chandrashekhar’s artistic journey continued with paintings on the life of Morya Gosavi at Morya Gosavi Sansthan, Pune, in 2017. His work captured the essence of Morya Gosavi’s life and teachings, resonating with visitors and devotees alike.

Besides these notable exhibitions, Chandrashekhar Joshi has also illustrated book covers for more than 20,000 books. His artistic contributions have graced the covers of books on prominent figures such as Ramdas Swami, Swami Vivekananda, Veer Savarkar, Shivaji Maharaj, and Babasaheb Ambedkar, among others.

Chandrashekhar Joshi’s journey as an artist is a testament to his relentless dedication and boundless creativity. Through his paintings, sketches, and illustrations, he continues to leave an indelible mark on the world of art and literature, touching hearts and inspiring many.
